This mural was created inside the Dale Street Place Apartments (DSP) at Dale and I-94 in the historic Rondo neighborhood.I was the lead artist on this Creatives After Curfew mural collective project that incorporated input from both staff and residents to reflect the spirit and stories of the community that calls this building home.

 

We met with residents and staff multiple times, including hosting a community event to gather ideas for what could be included in the mural. The residents of DSP come from all over the world, so the final design includes elements that reflect both the legacy of Rondo and imagery inspired by other cities and cultures. DSP serves individuals who have recently or previously experienced houselessness—some residents are in short-term transitional housing, while others have called DSP home for decades.

 

Themes of the mural include home, friendship, healing, and finding your community—offering a visual reflection of the resilience and interconnectedness of the people who live there.
